Best Media Room (under £15,000)
Winner: ET Home Cinema for Badsworth Hall Study
The judges considered this multi-purpose area for work and relaxation an “ingenious use of space”.
One of the client's main concerns was to minimise impact on the primary function of the room; as an office. Other issues faced were lack of wall space and a limited budget. The installer designed a hidden automated projection system which can be used for PC presentations but also double up as a big-screen TV. The main components of the solution are an Optoma ThemeScene projector, Draper Sesame in-ceiling screen, PureTheatre projector lift and Monitor Audio ceiling speakers. Easy access to the client's iTunes collection is provided through a Sonos music system. A Control4 system transforms the room at the touch of a button on the client's iPad; dimming the lights and lowering the screen and projector and then reverting the room back to a study. All the AV sources and control equipment are located in a purpose built cupboard under the stairs; with ducting to an outside air vent to provide adequate ventilation. This ensures the solution is virtually invisible when not in use.
The client is delighted with their media room and raised the installers for their "fresh ideas" and ability to provide "best value options".
