Best Integrated Home (from £30,000 - £100,000)
Winner: Complete Home Control for Birch House
A project that the judges felt “demonstrates a huge breadth of what can be achieved”.
The client wanted a cutting-edge home automation/entertainment system for a new extension which could be integrated with the legacy system in the rest of the house. The installer chose to fit new Cat6 cabling throughout the property to all TV points and speaker locations originally fitted with Cat5. All new and retrofit cables are centralised in a rack cupboard in the hallway along with the control system; for ease of maintenance. Video sources, including Hot Bird satellite, Sky+ HD, Blu-ray and Apple TV, are distributed to each of the main rooms in the house, extension and external areas. Likewise, the client can enjoy audio in all the TV zones and external zones; which can be linked together in ‘party mode’. Samsung displays and Klipsch speakers have been fitted throughout for continuity. Four enterprise grade WAPs provide ‘blanket’ Wi-Fi coverage for the large number of control devices.
Control of the whole property is centralised through a Crestron system and accessed from iPads, housed in Crestron tabletop docks, or iPod Touch, both running Crestron’s Mobile Pro G app. The client and his wife also have global control functionality via their iPhones. Integrated services include: AV; lighting; swimming pool mechanical services; pool waterfalls and cover; garage doors; electric gates and CCTV.
