Best Media Room (over £10,000)

Winner: New Land Solutions Ltd for Hidden Cinema

Hampshire-based integration firm, New Land Solutions, has excelled in an outstanding renovation project for this property in a fashionable part of London which has secured the top prize in the hotly contested Best Media Room over £10,000 category at the CEDIA Awards 2015. Breath-taking in concept and implementation, the integrated solution for this project features jaw-dropping automation and technology integration that transforms a relaxed living room into a high class home cinema.

Located in the basement of a seven storey Georgian terraced property dating back to 1775, this media room is a fantastic example of technology and interior design meeting in perfect balance. New Land Solutions has combined with acclaimed designer Tim Gosling, and architect, Ian Adam-Smith to provide a very special family space within the home.

The client’s brief was to create a space, which would accommodate both an 8 – 10 seater cinema and also offer a more relaxed family living environment when the cinema was not in use. New Land Solutions prioritised on three main objectives: to make sure that the viewing experience would be the same, no matter which seat was chosen; that all technology would remain discretely concealed when not in use, and, finally, that the room would be finished to a supremely high standard, complete with top of the range equipment that would help deliver a premium experience.

What has been delivered ticks all these boxes and more. The deceptively simple area is focussed around a relaxing, half circle sofa and compact, coffee table. But, with one press of the Savant controlled touchscreen, the space magically transforms. The coffee table disappears into the floor allowing the sofa to slide forward and over the now empty space. From behind the sofa, five Fortress cinema chairs appear from beneath, thanks to a Future Automation automated lift mechanism. A large Screen Research projector screen descends down from a concealed ceiling slot in front of the sofa and a Runco projector from Pulse Marketing noiselessly slides into position behind a wall at the rear of the room.

At the same time, the blinds automatically descend to create a perfect movie viewing environment, eleven hidden speakers power on, driven by Procella amplification and a Datasat RS 20 audio processor to complete a unique media room transformation. A Kaleidescape Cinema One system provides easy access to a wide range of movies and TV shows for the family to browse, play and enjoy.

Underpinning the reliable smooth-running of all the IP networked devices within this room and, for the additional sub-systems in the property, is a Pakedge AV network which New Land Solutions can access 24/7 from a remote location to monitor the installation, and carry out automated power cycling and fix problems, often before they event occur, without needing to visit the site.

“The design challenge and level of integration required on this project was a true one-off,” says Luke Newland of New Land Solutions. “Our team worked closely with the suppliers to engineer a unique solution that takes a sumptuous living room interior and changes it into an incredible cinema within a matter of minutes at the touch of a single button press. It’s an engineering feat of huge scale, where collaboration of all parties has delivered an amazing room for the client. This is a prime example of the excellence that our industry can achieve and we’re thrilled to win a CEDIA Award.”
