Special Recognition

Winner: Mike Beatty for Pulse Marketing

The winner of the CEDIA Special Recognition Award is Mike Beatty, Managing Director at Essex-based company, Pulse Marketing.

The Special Recognition Award is a category, created by CEDIA to recognise and celebrate the contribution of individuals to the work of CEDIA, and the development and growth of the residential custom installation industry and the wider world.

Here is a snippet of the script from the Awards night describing why Mike Beatty is a worthy winner of the 2014 award...

Tonight’s winner began work in the industry 23 years ago at an audio retailer, selling brands such as Linn, Naim and Rega to name a few. He fell in love with the industry and has never looked back.

Throughout his career, this man has been renowned for his passion, energy and enthusiasm. It’s no surprise that his steady progression through different AV businesses now sees him heading up his own company, one of the leading home cinema specialists in the residential custom installation field with a fantastic showroom facility, the envy of many.

He has always been a huge advocate for the industry. Throughout his career, he has given freely of his time and expertise, playing an active role in many of CEDIA’s committees, and always contributing positively and selflessly for the good of the industry. He has also brought installers and brands together to launch initiatives which help to give wider visibility and publicity for our sector, helping to put home cinema at the forefront of people’s minds and showing them the amazing experiences that can be achieved with a little imagination and investment. This is a man who is incredibly passionate about cinema.

His selflessness and passion are also manifest in his charitable works. In 2009 he travelled with the charity, Edukid to visit victims of the civil war in Northern Uganda. The war had lasted 21 years and focused heavily on the rebel army which was raiding villages at night, capturing children to forcing them to become child soldiers or wives to the soldiers.

He approached 20th Century Fox to fund a cameraman to film the Edukid project. This movie was a fantastic asset and used to show thousands of people back home the plight of these poor children.

In the words of Chris Turner from Edukid “Probably his biggest asset is his ability to empower, inspire and facilitate people to become involved in helping” and through this he has enlisted the support of people from across the residential CI sector to get involved and raise as a group for a number of deserving charities, by climbing Kilimanjaro, walking a 100km, doing the Three Peaks Challenge, and running a number marathons so far along with colleagues from within the company and a number of other industry figureheads.

To date, under the banner of his Nothing and Everything initiative, over £70,000 has so far been raised for worthy causes including Edukid, the Teenage Cancer Trust, the Motor Neurone Disease Association and 6 others and the plan is to bring that total to £100,000.
This is a man passionate and selfless in our industry, but also touching and dedicated to changing lives outside it.

For his ability to empower, inspire and motivate others to become involved; for his commitment and boundless reserves of positive thinking; for his determination to help others and for his passion for our industry and for the many much less fortunate than ourselves beyond it, the winner of CEDIA’s Special Recognition Award 2014 is…. Mike Beatty of Pulse Marketing!
